Barcelona are taking a proactive approach to securing the futures of key players, and Jules Kounde is no exception.

According to the latest update from Jijantes, the club’s sporting director, Deco, held a meeting with Kounde’s agent last week to discuss a potential contract renewal. However, there is no rush from either side to finalise an agreement at this stage.

Kounde, whose current contract runs until 2027, remains an integral part of Barcelona’s long-term vision. Despite being a natural centre-back, he has proven to be a versatile defender, forming a solid connection with Lamine Yamal.

His presence has brought much-needed defensive stability, making him a key figure in the team’s tactical setup. While renewing his deal is not the club’s most pressing concern, his consistent performances underline his importance in Barcelona’s project.

Barcelona are happy with Kounde

The club’s overall strategy is clear—they want to ensure that their core squad members remain committed to the project for years to come. As part of this approach, they have already decided to offer Kounde a contract extension beyond 2027, aiming to tie him down until 2030.

The chances of reaching an agreement appear to be highly favourable. Barcelona are extremely satisfied with Kounde’s contributions, and the player himself is fully committed to continuing his journey with the club.

He is settled and happy at Barcelona, which makes the renewal process smoother.

Chelsea’s interest

However, his performances have not gone unnoticed elsewhere. Chelsea, who previously explored the possibility of signing him last summer, are once again showing interest in securing his services.

Reports suggest that the Premier League side could return with an offer of around €100 million this year. Additionally, clubs from Saudi Arabia have also been monitoring the French defender’s situation.

Despite this external interest, Barcelona have made their stance clear—they have no intention of selling Kounde under any circumstances.

The player himself is not considering a departure either, as he remains focused on his role at the club. With both parties aligned in their vision, an agreement on an extension seems likely in the near future.
