It was a result that saw Tottenham move into the top four above Newcastle. As for West Ham, they remained in the relegation zone following their 13th defeat of the campaign.

It's no wonder that things threatened to boil over towards the end of the match then.

It was Ivan Perisic's late challenge on Vladimír Coufal that sparked a clash between the two sets of players.

In the middle of that clash were midfielders Rice and Højbjerg.

The opponents went head-to-head in an argument with the West Ham shouting in Højbjerg's face. He certainly looked animated.

What did Rice say to Hojbjerg?

But what was he saying?

Well, according to several fans on social media, Rice shouted 'no one likes you' twice at Højbjerg's direction.

It's certainly a bizarre insult from Rice and we're not quite sure why he said it.

Hojbjerg later confirmed that's exactly what Rice said to him.

What did Rice say after Tottenham 2-0 West Ham?

Rice gave a post-match interview after West Ham's defeat in which he said: “When you come to Spurs it’s going to be tough… but it’s up to us to perform and create chances. We created some good chances in the first half.

"Second-half, two mistakes, two goals. Everyone’s down, everyone knows the position we’re in, but it’s up to us to stay positive and turn things around.

“Maybe our strikers felt isolated when the ball went up to them. I’m not worried about what other teams are doing I’m only bothered about us. We’ve got a big one next week against Forest.”

Davies: It's been a tough week for Spurs

Meanwhile, it was a big win for Tottenham after a difficult week.

Last weekend, they lost 4-1 to Leicester before a defeat in the Champions League last-16 first leg against AC Milan. After that loss, manager Antonio Conte remained in Italy as he recovered from his gallbladder surgery.

“It was a tough week, especially after the game against Leicester," Ben Davies said.

"We had a few home truths amongst ourselves, and I thought we rectified that. We were solid. We worked hard and we are happy with the win.”

Son Heung-min came off the bench to score Tottenham's second goal of the game and he admitted nobody wants to be a substitute.

“Nobody wants to sit on the bench. It’s a decision you have to accept. But football can also change from the bench, I think. When I’m sitting on the bench I’m not happy, obviously … I was very, very happy to score and then help the team.

“The pass [from Kane] was actually really good. It came to my feet … Great touch, the first touch made the goal. Yeah, I’m grateful that I could help the team.”
