Former Premier League duo Micah Richards and Alan Shearer expressed their shock with Erik ten Hag’s comments that Manchester United are one of the most entertaining and dynamic teams in the country.

Ten Hag made those remarks after yet another disappointing result by United, this time a 1-1 draw over the weekend against Burnley.

Once again, the Red Devils produced a poor performance and made hard work of beating significantly inferior opponents. Antony gave his side the lead in the 79th minute when he capitalised on a huge defensive error from the Clarets to send the ball into the bottom corner.

However, as has been the case for large spells of the campaign, Ten Hag’s men couldn’t hold on to their advantage and were pegged back soon after via Zeki Amdouni, who converted his penalty kick to ensure the points were eventually shared at Old Trafford.

After the final whistle, Ten Hag told BBC Match of the Day, “We are one of the most dynamic and entertaining teams in the league at this moment. We are creating loads of chances by playing good football. Every team gives up opportunities. But when it is up to us, it is weird.”

Unsurprisingly, his statement didn’t go down well with the fans, who criticised both him and his players for their woeful display.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards and legendary striker Alan Shearer also took issue with Ten Hag’s comments.

Richards said, “Who said that? Repeat that quote please.” Ex-England international Gary Lineker re-read the quote prompting a stunned Richards to reply, “[They’re the most dynamic and entertaining team] off the field, maybe, with all the controversy. He can’t be talking about on the pitch, deary me!”

An equally astonished Shearer added, “No, they’re not [one of the most dynamic and entertaining teams in the league]”

“You just don’t know what team is going to turn up. They get a decent result one week and they’re hopeless the next, you don’t know what you’re going to get. But that’s not true.”

“Burnley played really well at Old Trafford and sliced through United with ease, although that’s not difficult these days. If they had taken their chances they could have scored five or six goals.”

United’s next assignment is a trip away to Selhurst Park to take on an in-form Crystal Palace side brimming with confidence since Oliver Glasner’s arrival.
