La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Milan are making ‘financial assessments’ over Roberto De Zerbi who has a €15m clause with Brighton, while the Italian tactician would be tempted to return to the club.

Brighton coach De Zerbi has emerged as one of the Milan candidates to replace Stefano Pioli next season.

According to Gazzetta, fans’ protests have convinced the club to drop Julen Lopetegui, but the Rossoneri are already in touch with five other candidates.

De Zerbi is not among them, but the Serie A giants are reportedly considering a return to the club for their academy product.

According to Gazzetta, De Zerbi’s ability to develop young players and his exciting playing style, make him a serious candidate for the role, but the Rossoneri directors are also making financial assessments.

De Zerbi, in fact, is under contract with Brighton until June 2026 and has a €15m clause in his contract with the Premier League side. Other sources previously claimed the clause was set at €13m.

Gazzetta claims that if Milan go for De Zerbi, they’ll have to find a way to lower the coach’s transfer fee. The pink paper suggests the Seagulls will be willing to listen to Milan’s proposals.

Nevertheless, it must be noted that Brighton chief executive Paul Barber has recently said the club would offer RDZ an “attractive package” to “work with and stay with us” beyond the summer.
