Darwin Nunez faces massive TWIST in his future

Darwin Nunez could be facing a huge twist in his future this summer.

The Uruguayan has been an enigma at Liverpool. Sometimes you watch Nunez play and he looks like the best forward in the world. Then you watch him again another time and he's the complete opposite.

The extremes from incredible to terrible have been an undulating ride so far. This summer, it feels like there will be a resolution and a chapter will close.

Nunez seems open to a new challenge and while Napoli have moved on from trying to sign him, he does have other options on the table - most notably from Saudi Arabia.

Whether that is an option he intends to pursue remains to be seen. Liverpool's stance has definitely changed on their plans for Nunez based on a recent report.

For a while now it has looked like Liverpool were very keen on selling their current no.9. However, this doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

It looks like Nunez could actually be staying at the club for another season. That's according to Rousing the Kop, who claim that there is a possibility that the Uruguayan could remain at Anfield this summer and that the club would be willing to keep him.

This however does not impact Liverpool's current pursuit of a forward. The Reds would still like to sign Alexander Isak or Hugo Ekitike even if Nunez stays at the club.

This is quite a significant twist in Nunez's future, considering previously we had all thought Liverpool would be desperate to get rid of him this summer.

Now though he might just have a new lease of life and if a striker is signed perhaps becoming a back-up and having to fight for his place could spur Nunez to work on himself and improve his finishing.

Already this summer we have seen glimpses of a more motivated Nunez, who looks ready to buckle down and work hard to prove himself.

With a new look, having shaved his hair off, Nunez looks like a 'new' man and he showed that in the club's first pre-season friendly against Preston North End.

Nunez kept his composure to go round the Preston goalkeeper to score Liverpool's second goal in the match. Last season he may have skied that chance into the stands.

This time around though he was cool and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Then during the last few minutes of the game, it was Nunez's dummy that allowed Cody Gakpo to get himself on the scoresheet as well.

Once again, last season's Nunez will have latched onto that ball and may have tried to get a shot off. But this new Nunez had the vision and the foresight to see Gakpo in a better position and catch his opponents off-guard with a very clever move.

If this is the Nunez we see for the rest of the season, keeping him might not be a bad idea.
