Danny Rohl should be eyeing a Sheffield Wednesday exit amid significant issues behind the scenes

Danny Rohl has been linked with a move away from Sheffield Wednesday in recent weeks and latest developments behind the scenes make it clear why he has to move away from Hillsborough.

It was reported by the BBC at the end of May that the Owls’ owner Dejphon Chansiri failed to pay staff their monthly salary on time for the second time in three months.

This comes amid calls from supporters for the businessman to cash in on his stake in the club and sell.

However, it was claimed by The Star that Chansiri rejected an offer from a US-based consortium looking to take over the Yorkshire outfit.

If the 57-year-old is going to stick around, then it would be in Rohl’s best interests to walk away from Sheffield Wednesday this summer before their issues pile up even further.

Danny Rohl’s potential Sheffield Wednesday exit

The German has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks, both in England and back in Germany.

It was reported by Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett last week that Rohl remains on Leicester City’s shortlist of potential candidates.

He has also been linked with the RB Leipzig vacancy after the team finished seventh in the Bundesliga last season.

The Southampton job was previously open, but the appointment of Will Still closed off any chance of moving to St. Mary’s.

It’s no surprise Rohl has attracted interest from clubs of this stature given the work he’s done with Sheffield Wednesday.

And if these behind the scenes issues are going to persist under Chansiri, then he has to get out of there before it starts to hurt his ability to continue growing as a coach.

The 36-year-old has taken this club from the brink of relegation to League One to a solid 12th place position in the Championship under limited resources.

If the Sheffield Wednesday owner cannot keep up with the payment of monthly wages, then it’s impossible to expect proper spending in the transfer market, Rohl will simply not receive the backing he deserves as long as Chansiri remains in control.

Rohl’s departure would really hurt Sheffield Wednesday

If Rohl did leave this summer, as he should, then it would be a massive blow to the Owls ahead of the new season.

The sooner the band-aid is ripped off the better potentially, as it would give the club time to find a successor and allow them space to somehow recruit for the squad for next season.

But their limited resources mean that the pool of managers they’ll be targeting are unlikely to be as impressive as Rohl, and that new coach won’t have the funds to really leave a stamp on the team.

The only way the young coach may be convinced to stay if fresh investment does arrive in the summer, but Chansiri’s decision to reject an offer gives a pessimistic outlook on that happening any time soon.

It’s clear that Rohl has the potential to go far in the game based on how well he’s done at Sheffield Wednesday, but the only way he might reach those heights now is for him to leave the club this summer.
