Cup takes us back to Dornbirn

Second round clash on Wednesday

We had a midweek trip to the western tip of Austria for the second round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup at FC Dornbirn. The match kicks off on Wednesday 27 August at 18:00 in the Birkenwiese Arena.

The fixture brings back some not so distant memories for us. It was just a little over a year ago when we visited in the first round of last season's cup. We didn't wait around then before racing to a 6-0 away win.

The regional league side showed that they can be tricky cup opponents in the first round against Bundesliga rivals GAK. They took the lead in their clash at the end of the July in the sixth minute, and the visitors were not able to battle back from that. We therefore have to be fully focused from the start to the end to make the next round.

You can follow the game on a free live stream on ÖFB TV in Austria.

FC Dornbirn knocked GAK out in the first round, which says a lot. Our aim is, of course, to make the next round. It is important that we approach this with the utmost seriousness and professionalism. This means that we will prepare for this match in the same way we prepare for our European matches in order to be successful in the cup. We will definitely rotate our squad in Dornbirn, because the Bundesliga match against Blau-Weiß Linz is coming up so soon afterwards.

We have analysed numerous scenes from that match and therefore know that we cannot take this encounter lightly. Of course, we are the favourites on paper. The match will be played on the pitch, however, and we need to show from the outset that we are the better team and want to progress.
