The Spurs vice-captain does not want to see “always the same” cycle of changing players and manager

Cristian Romero has appeared to take aim at the Tottenham hierarchy as the club struggles for form under manager Ange Postecoglou.

A 4-3 home loss to Chelsea, in which Spurs led 2-0, has left the club languishing in 11th place, with seven defeats from 15 games.

Standard Sport understands Postecoglou retains the backing of the board and Romero insists the manager is not to blame for the club’s form, though has seemingly pointed the finger at the likes of chairman Daniel Levy.

Romero is confident Spurs have all the tools to be regular Premier League title contenders but wants to see more transfer investment rather than “always the same” cycle of changing players and manager.

He told Telemundo Deportes: "The truth is, I would say no comment, but... Manchester City competes every year, you see how Liverpool strengthens its squad, Chelsea strengthens their squad, doesn't do well, strengthens again, and now they're seeing results.

"Those are the things to imitate. You have to realise that something is going wrong, hopefully, they realise it.

"The last few years, it’s always the same: first, the players, then the coaching staff changes, and it's always the same people responsible.

"Hopefully they realise who the true responsible ones are, and we move forward because it’s a beautiful club that, with the structure it has, could easily be competing for the title every year."

Jamie Carragher was similarly critical of Levy following Sunday's defeat, calling for the Spurs chairman to step down after over two decades in charge has garnered just one League Cup win.

"They've changed so many managers," Carragher said on Sky Sports. "We talk about Daniel Levy a lot. What Daniel Levy's done here in terms of the training ground and and this for me, this is the best stadium in the world.

"And that's been Daniel Levy's strength in terms of a really stable football club. The stadium he's delivered. He's delivered the training ground.

"It's probably some time for somebody else to come in because to not win a trophy in that period of time, with the manager they've had.
