The number of Sky Blues coming to home games has improved.

Coventry City fans have been fiercely loyal through some heart-destroying times in recent years.

Despite consecutive years of not quite being able to get over the hump at Wembley, in both the play-off final and FA Cup semi-final, and the recent sacking of legendary coach Mark Robins following a shaky start to the season, the Sky Blues backers have remained expectedly loyal to their team.

They have been faced with some testing moments, but they all want to see the same thing: Coventry succeeding.

There was a time when filling the CBS Arena was a real task. Back before Robins took over, while the club were in League Two, they would struggle to consistently put a five-figure amount of people in the seats.

Now, that isn't a problem, and attendances have grown year-on-year over the last few years. This is exactly how much Coventry's home attendance is up compared to the previous season.

It's safe to say that those who have gone to show their support to the Sky Blues at the CBS Arena, so far in the 2024/25 campaign, haven't been wholly rewarded for their backing. On average, there have been 26,962 fans in attendance at City's seven home games, according to Transfermarkt.

At home, Coventry have simply been one of the worst teams in the league. They have won three times, but have also lost four - as many as any other team in the division. The only sides in the Championship with a worse home record than them in this term are Hull City, Portsmouth and Queens Park Rangers; those latter two occupy the bottom two of the general league table too.

The price of the cheapest available season ticket at the CBS Arena, for this season, was £250: the lowest in the division.

After the near-promotion season, it was no surprise to see a big increase in attendance, going from just under 20,000 per home game in the 2022/23 campaign to 25,468 in the 2023/24 one. That second number is only slightly smaller than the current average home attendance in the current season.

Owner Doug King announced a new season ticket scheme, called the Premier League package, whereby 5000 people could pay a flat £500 fee for the following five seasons.

If they were to reach the English top flight for the first time during that allotted half-a-decade period, then those of the 5000 that continually renewed their season tickets would get the first season in the Premier League for free.

While Coventry didn't reach the league heights that they had done in the previous season, they did get back to Wembley but lost in similarly devastating fashion on penalties.

They did do much better in the 23/24 season than they have done in the current one, when hosting games. With a record of nine wins, eight draws and six losses at the CBS Arena, Coventry were the 10th best team in the league at home.
