The Sweden international has been sensational for Sporting CP since he made the move from the Sky Blues, which included firing the side to the title last season.

He has continued that in the current campaign, scoring eight goals in his five league games, and he found the net in his first Champions League outing on Tuesday as Sporting CP beat Lille, meaning he has scored in eight consecutive games for club and country.

The superb goal in the victory over Lille was a landmark moment in Gyokeres’ career, as it was his first appearance in the biggest club competition in the world.

So, it was a brilliant night for the striker, who was also named man of the match for his all-round display as the Portuguese side picked up all three points.

And, taking to Instagram, Gyokeres reflected on the night with a message to the fans.

First night under the Champions League lights. Grateful for the team, the support, and the win. Man of the Match feels special.”

That comment brought many responses, with McFadzean and Rose among those to reply to Gyokeres.

McFadzean, who is currently with Blackburn but spent several years with Gyokeres at Coventry, put ‘love it, you’. Meanwhile, Stoke City’s Rose, who also played with the 26-year-old at the CBS Arena, simply said ‘not surprised’ in reference to Gyokeres’ incredible run of form.

Coventry City will want Viktor Gyokeres’ form to continue

There were no real hard feelings at Coventry when Gyokeres left, although it was unfortunate that they couldn’t reach the Premier League with the player.

So, all connected to the club will be pleased to see how Gyokeres’ career is playing out, as they have had a role in developing arguably one of the best strikers in the world right now.

Of course, there is also a financial benefit in line for Coventry if the ex-Brighton man does move on for a big fee.

That’s because the Championship side included a sell-on as part of the agreement that took Gyokeres to Lisbon, and it’s believed to stand at around 10% after Sporting CP paid Coventry to bring it down from the original 15% in the summer.

But, that could still turn out to be a significant sum, as it has been reported that Sporting CP are holding out for his release clause, which is around £84m.

Obviously, they may not get that fee, but if they did, Coventry would be entitled to 10% of the profit made after selling him for around £20m, so they could be in line for £6m if he is sold for his release clause.

It does seem a matter of time before Gyokeres does make the jump to one of the top leagues in the world, and Coventry will no doubt be tracking his progress and keeping an eye on any offers that are lodged, whether it’s in January or the summer window.
