AC Milan are currently in the kind of rut where it feels like everything that can go wrong is going wrong, and more bad news arrived yesterday.
As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress) reports this morning, the defeat against Lazio didn’t just result in zero points for Milan but it also took away two important players for Saturday’s match against Lecce: Mike Maignan and Strahinja Pavlovic, leaving the club ‘irritated’.
The French goalkeeper was disqualified for a disrespectful expression towards the referee in the tunnel after the match at San Siro. The protest of the No.16 arose from the penalty given to the Biancocelesti at the end, which for him was not justified, and it was certainly controversial.
Marco Sportiello will play in his place, though Sergio Conceicao will have to think about who will take the captain’s armband. In recent weeks the deputy has been Theo Hernandez, but given his form and performances, Conceicao could actually bench the left-back and pick someone else.
The straight red card shown to Pavlovic was for stopping a clear goal-scoring opportunity, otherwise known as a DOGSO. Even the Roman newspaper admits it leaves some doubts because not all of the criteria were met.
However, on Saturday the Serbian will also be absent and one of either Matteo Gabbia or Fikayo Tomori will play in his place, partnering Malick Thiaw.
