Roma will host AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico tonight, and it is a contest between two sides who have big doubts about the future.
As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) report this morning, Roma and Milan will play their penultimate games of the 2024-25 season, a campaign which has been eventful for both with mid-season managerial changes and uncertainty about European fate.
For Claudio Ranieri it will be the last match of his career at home, in front of his fans, so there will be plenty to be excited about after all the emotions he has experienced and brought to the Giallorossi over the years.
On the flip side it will be the last away match for Sergio Conceiçao, who is set to leave Milan at the end of this season after the various disappointments accumulated in recent months. He perhaps had a chance of staying by winning at the same ground on Wednesday night, but lost to Bologna.
Roma and Milan will therefore have to start again with a new coach, who has not yet been announced. This is exactly what Corriere dello Sport mean with their headline: ‘Roma-Milan in doubt, between Europe and projects’.
The Giallorossi still have a genuine hope of reaching the Champions League but the Rossoneri are out to try and end the season strongly. While a win for Roma would boost their hopes, a win for Milan would pretty much rule them out of top four, while on the flip side boosting the Diavolo’s aims.
Either way, the feeling is that Roma-Milan tonight is a contest between two sides who could look very different next season, with new head coaches and thus new projects to be launched. Tonight, the field will do the talking regarding the present, then the summer will determine the future.
