Copenhagen vs Chelsea – Team News: Two academy starlets feature for Chelsea

Chelsea face Copenhagen at Parken in just under an hour, and the teams are in!

It’s a truly fascinating one, both in terms of formation and setup.

Let’s start with what we know – Robert Sanchez, our new cup keeper, returns in goal.

After that, it’s anyone’s guess. There are two right backs (Malo Gusto, Reece James) no left backs, three centre backs (Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo).

So, we reckon Reece James will play in midfield as he did against Aston Villa a couple of weeks ago. That means Trevoh at right back and Malo Gusto at left back.

James is then in midfield with Moises Caicedo and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, with a really interesting front line.

Cole Palmer is in – against some expectations – with rising wing star Tyrique George on the other wing – and 17 year old Shim Mheuka starting up front.

Here are the full team line-ups for Copenhagen vs Chelsea (kick off at 17:45 GMT)

This is obviously a huge moment for Shim, and for Tyrique, who has really earned this chance with impressive cameo performances over the last few months.

Playing Caicedo makes sense as he’s pretty likely to pick up a 2 game ban in the league at some point soon – he’s on 9 yellow cards.

As for playing Palmer, clearly Enzo Maresca wants to get him back into scoring form soon, and given the Blues haven’t played for 9 days, there doesn’t seem a huge risk of fatiguing him.

That said, we’d be very surprised if he plays more than an hour tonight, with Leicester on the horizon on Sunday.

We don’t want to get carried away here, but both Mheuka and George can surely move another step closer to a league start in a depleted front line if they perform tonight. We can’t wait to see what they can bring.
