Newcastle United continued their momentum on Saturday, as they thrashed Ipswich Town 4-0 in the Premier League at Portman Road.
The Magpies made an explosive start to the away encounter, scoring the opener after just 26 seconds.
Jacob Murphy set up Alexander Isak for Newcastle’s early goal, but it was initially ruled out for offside and was only given after a lengthy VAR check.
The 29-year-old got in on the act himself after 32 minutes, as he fired in off the underside of the crossbar after good work from Anthony Gordon.
Isak ended the game as a contest by smashing their third in first-half injury time.
A brilliant flicked pass from Murphy allowed the Sweden international to complete his hat-trick after the interval, as Newcastle went on to secure an emphatic 4-0 win.
Isak was the standout performer in Saturday’s away win, but the national media were also left hugely impressed with Murphy.
The Sunday Mirror gave the 29-year-old a 9/10 rating, saying he was a ‘constant threat’ throughout the match.
Their verdict read: “Ex-Norwich attacker Jacob Murphy set up the opener and was a constant threat against the rivals of his old club as he grabbed Newcastle’s second before his back-heel allowed Isak to complete a 54-minute treble, after he also struck at the end of the first half following more woeful Ipswich defending.”
Murphy produced a scintillating display on the right wing at Portman Road. He had 36 touches and completed 18 of his 21 passes (86% accuracy).
The forward won 100% of his ground duels and created three big chances. He lost possession on seven occasions but registered three key passes and a tackle.
Murphy has been a key player for Newcastle this season. He has featured in 14 Premier League matches, with three goals and five assists to his name.
