Hearts have finalised a move for forward Musa Drammeh, who had been on the radar of Sunderland and Birmingham City in the past.

Hearts have completed the signing of Musa Drammeh on a three-year deal, ending any chance that Birmingham City or Sunderland could sign the attacker this summer.

The 22-year-old had been with Sevilla, but he struggled to get near the first-team, with his appearances coming for the B team, who play in the Spanish lower leagues.

Drammeh impressed at that level, scoring goals as the side won promotion to the third tier, and his form clearly attracted attention.

It was claimed that Blues, Sunderland and Cardiff were all keeping tabs on the youngster, who can play as a central striker or on the wing.

Interest from the Black Cats appeared to be the most advanced, as they actually saw a bid for Drammeh turned down ahead of the January window, which came when Michael Beale was in charge at the Stadium of Light.

Musa Drammeh joins Hearts

With his contract at Sevilla expiring in the summer, there was always going to be a scramble for Drammeh’s signature on a free transfer, as it could be viewed as a smart bit of business.

And, it’s Hearts who have won the race to sign Drammeh, as they announced his arrival on their official site on Monday.

The Jambos have swooped early, which continues their summer transfer spree, as Drammeh is the fifth new recruit at Tynecastle as they prepare for next season.

It’s unclear whether any of the clubs in the Football League had made an offer to the player, but he was obviously happy to move to Scotland, and he will get the chance to play European football with Hearts moving forward.

After finishing third in the Scottish Premiership, Steven Naismith’s side will go into the Europa League qualifiers, but if they fail to progress they will go into the Europa Conference League group stages.

Birmingham, Sunderland and Cardiff need attacking reinforcements

This gives an insight into how clubs could be competing for the same player, and there’s no doubt that many clubs will be in the market for new options in the final third.

With Sunderland, the lack of a clinical striker was a real problem last season, and it’s a key factor in why they couldn’t sustain a push for the play-off places, as there was a reliance on Jack Clarke to get the goals.

It’s a similar story with Cardiff City, with no player in Erol Bulut’s squad having scored more than six goals last season, which highlights just how short they were in attack.

Of course, Birmingham were relegated to League One, with goals once again a problem as they underachieved in what was a forgettable campaign.

Blues may find it more difficult to attract players now they are in the third tier, but it has been stated that Chris Davies could be given a huge budget of £20m for transfer fees and wages as he looks to build a team that is capable of winning promotion next season.
