La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Saturday been dealt a fresh, and altogether heavy blow on the personnel front.
This comes amid confirmation that key defender Éder Militão has suffered a ruptured ACL.
Militão for his part featured from the off earlier today, as Real Madrid welcomed Osasuna to the Spanish capital for a La Liga clash.
En route to an eventual 4-0 Blancos rout, however, the Brazilian international lasted just half an hour.
After jamming his foot in the Santiago Bernabéu turf, Militão immediately went to ground, letting out a loud scream on his way down.
Upon players from both sides crowding around the stopper, it quickly became evident that his problem was a serious one, with the hosts’ medical team having eventually loaded Militão onto a stretcher before carrying him off.
And, as alluded to above, in the hours since, the worst has been confirmed.
As per a statement across Real’s website and social media platforms, just over a year on from tearing the ACL in his left knee, Militão has suffered the same in his right knee:
‘Following tests carried out today on Eder Militão by Real Madrid’s medical department, the player has been diagnosed with a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament with damage to both meniscuses in his right leg. Militão will undergo surgery in the coming days.’
The 26-year-old joins teammates David Alaba, Dani Carvajal and Joan Martínez on the sidelines with respective ACL injuries.
