La Liga giants Barcelona have missed out on the signature of Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.

This comes amid confirmation that the attacker is all set to link up with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

The name of frontman Rashford has of course proven a prominent one in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital for several weeks now.

As much comes amid the understanding that the England international was identified as a leading mid-season transfer target by Barcelona.

Available on loan, Rashford was seen as a viable option to reinforce what Hansi Flick considers to be an under-manned area of his squad.

In turn, it will no doubt come as a blow for Flick and his staff to learn that the Man United man is headed elsewhere.

As per a report from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano:

‘Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, here we go! Agreement in place on loan deal with over 70% salary covered by Villa. Buy option clause worth £40m also included in contract with potential three-and-a-half year deal to follow.
