Conference League draw: Fiorentina meet Panathinaikos, but Chelsea on opposite side

Fiorentina were drawn with Panathinaikos in the Conference League Round of 16 but saw Chelsea end up on the opposite side of the bracket.

The Tuscans had earned straight qualification to the knockout phase and could meet either the Greek side or Borac.

The latter were probably the easier side to meet, on paper, but La Viola were paired with Panathinaikos, who sit third in the Super League Greece.

The first leg will be played at Panathinaikos’ home on March 6, while the decider will be played at the Franchi in Florence the following week, on March 13.

However, Fiorentina avoided Chelsea who were placed on the opposite side of the draw. This means the Tuscans and the Blues can only meet in a potential final.

Fiorentina will face the winner of Celje and Lugano if they qualify for the quarter-finals, playing the second leg at home.
