The young Bees started well and looked a threat right from the off the side had a great opportunity to get themselves an early lead following an Ollie Shield corner.
The winger’s delivery was met by Adam Poliakov who made contact with the ball but it wasn’t enough to beat Jack Bereford.
Archie Trimboli was causing Colchester trouble with his overlapping runs down the right flank.
The right-back delivered a great ball to Michael McSorley on the half hour mark but the strikers header was easily gathered by the visitors keeper.
Colchester were limited to very few chances in the opening half as Brentford controlled most of the ball.
The side’s first chance came just before the break when Rashaad Drysdale broke through, but his shot was easily saved by Evan Anderson.
Colchester did eventually open the scoring on the brink of half-time when Leo Makatta dispossessed Anderson and stroked the ball home.
The visitors needed a good start to the second half and they came out well, half-time substitute Naeem Giscombe found the back of the net, but the linesman’s flag denied the Bees.
Colchester made it two against the run of play after Drysdale found the back off the net after a pass from Owen Moure.
Aiden Golding was putting in a good performance at the heart of Brentford’s backline as the side attempted to get back into the game.
After what had been a difficult game for the Bees they were finally rewarded for their hard work with Shield heading home at the far post on 75 minutes.
Josh Djoro made an excellent impact from the bench and levelled the score line just two minutes later getting on the end of a Poliakov cross and slotting home.
Brentford had all the momentum and continued to push forward, on 83 minutes the visitors incredibly got themselves ahead.
Giscombe got played through by McSorley with his shot squeezing underneath the Colchester keeper.
Brentford were left disappointed as Dwayne Campino De Vale found a late equaulsier for the home side with the Bees having to settle for a point.
