A new idea has materialised at Milanello, and AC Milan are taking an interest in the young defender Cristhian Mosquera, but his path has not been the ‘traditional’ one.

There are two tracks at Milan, according to Calciomercato.com: one to focus on Paulo Fonseca and the team, and the other to look at the mercato, and the latter is already looking ahead to next season.

In recent years, France has been Geoffrey Moncada’s hotspot for talent, but he is taking a look elsewhere currently, and next summer could see the club take a risk on a young defender from Valencia who has blossomed this year.

The report, citing Relevo, states the Rossoneri have Mosquera in their sights, but the move would only occur in June, with a January move not being considered, at least not for now.

With little known about the player, there is a background given on his rise and his future.

Originally, the defender preferred to play basketball due to his height but later changed to playing with his feet, albeit still not football, instead futsal. Then, in 2013, the then nine-year-old joined Hercules, before moving to Valencia in 2016.

Six years later, he made his debut for the club – an appearance in the Copa del Rey and since then the path has only been upwards. A central defender standing at 191cm, Mosquera is ‘solid, punctual’ and ‘athletically gifted’.

Comfortable in a back three or four, he has confidence in his abilities, and so does his coach, given he has not missed a league game since August 2023.

With the Spanish U-23 team, he won Olympic gold in the summer, but his future may not be with La Furia, given he has a Colombian passport from his parents. A decision is yet to be made, but his future is bright.

Milan are at the window, and the €30 million asking price is not ridiculous.
