Dutch side PEC Zwolle are set for a cash windfall from Middlesbrough star Rav van den Berg moving to German outfit 1.FC Koln.
Van den Berg has been heavily linked with an exit from Middlesbrough over the course of the summer.
Premier League side Crystal Palace held an interest in the Dutchman, but it seemed he would be heading for the Netherlands with Feyenoord.
Feyenoord initially managed to reach a verbal agreement with the Championship club and the player over a move to De Kuip.
The move though collapsed and it soon became clear that Van den Berg would not be joining Feyenoord this summer.
The Dutchman is getting his move though as he is heading to Germany to join Koln.
Middlesbrough are set to scoop up €10m from selling the defender and that also means a substantial cash windfall for his former club Zwolle.
Zwolle sold Van den Berg to Middlesbrough for the low fee of €300,000, but did include a sell-on clause on any future transfer fee profit which was set at 20 per cent.
If Boro do sell Van den Berg for a fee of €10m, making a profit of €9.7m, then 20 per cent of that total would mean they would collect €1.94m.
Added to that total would then be solidarity payments due to having developed the defender, meaning the final total they receive will be in excess of €2m.
Van den Berg is expected to be in Germany for his medical and have final talks with the club to sort out his move to Koln.
Boro boss Rob Edwards did not include Van den Berg in his matchday squad for Saturday’s win against Swansea City and if all goes well then he will be playing for Koln this term.
