Manchester City’s transfer interest in Shakhtar Donetsk and Ukraine international midfielder Georgiy Sudakov has now been confirmed by his club’s general director.

The 22-year-old is one of the most highly-rated attacking midfield talents across Europe at present, and his performances for the Ukrainian club have certainly caught the eyes of talent-spotters from across the continent.

Across his nine appearances in the Ukrainian Premier Liga thus far, Sudakov has scored a remarkable seven goals and provided a further two assists, developing his game beyond the art of chance creation.

That has taken Sudakov’s total for the senior Shakhtar Donetsk side up to 113 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has now scored 27 goals and provided a further 20 assists in that time.

But how long the player remains at the Ukrainian club remains to be seen, with some of the biggest and most prominent clubs within the European game now looming over his potential signature.

Speaking during a new interview with GOAL and SPOX, Shakhtar Donetsk general director Sergiy Palkin has now confirmed that Premier League champions Manchester City are keen on signing attacking midfielder, Georgiy Sudakov.

“Manchester City is interested in him (Sudakov), and other clubs from England are also watching him. I’m sure several clubs will make offers for him during the transfer window,” Palkin revealed.

Palkin has also revealed that Shakhtar Donetsk were very close to selling the 22-year-old playmaker in the summer window, however a deal never materialised.

He continued, “Six months ago we negotiated a transfer with SSC Napoli, but that didn’t work out.”

It was reported earlier this year that Georgiy Sudakov had a release clause in his Shakhtar Donetsk contract that would become active during the 2024 summer transfer window. However, with that clause believed to be worth around €150 million, no club was interested.

Looking further back towards the winter transfer window earlier this year, reports in various quarters suggested that Donetsk had rejected a number of high-profile proposals for their midfield star, with some reaching the heights of €35 million to €40 million valuations.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester City will turn their admiration in the player’s talents into concrete interest, and also what their plan would be for the player should he make a switch to the Etihad Stadium.
