A claim has been made as to the reason why US President Donald Trump joined Chelsea’s Club World Cup celebrations.

It was a controversial and awkward affair really, and you could see in the players faces that they were left confused and likely annoyed by the occurrence.

Chelsea beat PSG in the final of the Club World Cup to become Champions of the World in what was an incredible achievement for the club.

The lads celebrated after the game and did the usual trophy lift on the podium. Trump walked out onto the pitch at the end of the game alongside Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly to hand out the medals.

But there was a surprise to then see him stay within the Chelsea players when Reece James lifted the trophy. Chelsea’s players were rather miffed by this. But apparently it was Chelsea that asked him to stay up there.

Eric Trump has told The BBC that Chelsea invited Donald Trump on to the stage for their Club World Cup celebrations.

Eric says that Chelsea said ‘it would be the greatest honour of their life’ to have Trump there.

Hmmmm…. I’m not sure this will get a great response from some fans.

However, there is no doubt that having Trump up there bought a lot of news coverage and attention to Chelsea. So you could say that it was some solid PR work by the club, although I’m not sure at this point whether it was good or bad PR!
