We take a look at the players involved in our 11-month long 2024/25 first team campaign…
Starting way back in August 2024 when we lifted the Community Shield, City played 61 times across all competitions through to our Round of 16 elimination at the FIFA Club World Cup.
It was another gruelling campaign off the back of historic success in recent years under Pep Guardiola and while there was just the Community Shield in terms of trophies, there were still some highlights along the way.
Over the next few days, we’ll understand a bit more about how players in each position performed.
Today, we focus on the goalkeepers.
Our Brazilian has now played in the Premier League for eight seasons!
With six titles in that time, he’s undoubtedly a legend of the division and while this wasn’t a stellar campaign in general at City, our goalkeeper’s standards remained as high as ever.
In the Premier League specifically, he kept 10 clean sheets in 26 appearances but the outstanding figure came in his contribution towards the other end of the pitch.
His four assists in 2024/25 alone was a new record for a goalkeeper in the Premier League era, while he now has seven in total – two clear of next best Paul Robinson in 96 fewer matches.
Another also came in the Champions League as our man continued to have a huge impact on City’s play in and out of possession.
Total appearances: 40
Goals conceded: 54
Clean sheets: 13
Assists: Five
Now three seasons in at City, Ortega Moreno remains one of the Premier League’s best supporting goalkeepers.
The German’s consistency was finally rewarded with international recognition this season, with the 32-year-old receiving his first call ups although he didn’t take to the pitch.
After 14 appearances in 2022/23 and 20 in 2023/24, Ortega Moreno’s 22 games this term means he continues to command the respect of Pep Guardiola – who is willing to play him in any match.
He had a lengthy run in the team through December and January, often tasked with a significant amount of shot-stopping given the difficulties we had through that period.
But averaging a clean sheet better than once every three matches, Ortega Moreno’s solidity is a great comfort to the defenders ahead of him.
He also played four times in our run to the FA Cup final, including in the Wembley showpiece – further demonstrating the high regard in which he is held.
Total appearances: 22
Goals conceded: 24
Clean sheets: Eight
