Donovan ‘Tekkz’ Hunt, Matias Bonanno and Man City Esports’ newest signing Ander ‘Neat’ Tobal are all competing in this weekend’s FC Pro Open Cup.
Here is everything you need to know about the new competition.
There will be three cups with November the first, followed by December and January.
Each cup has an initial Ladder stage which is used to qualify for the Playoff stage which is taking place on 16 and 17 November.
Neat placed 6th, Bonanno 24th and Tekkz 25th and are all now excited to compete in the Playoffs.
Day one (16 November) will be in the well-known Swiss format. Based on their Ladder rankings, the City trio will face off against various opponents with every round played over one leg – extra time and penalties will be used to decide an outright winner if needed.
After three losses, competitors are eliminated and those with two or less defeats will move on to day two.
Even more intense than the Swiss format, day two (17 November) will be a single-elimination tournament.
Based on their rankings from day one, the pros will be seeded to then be drawn against an opponent. Essentially, winner stays on. A defeat, and you’re out.
The aim is to accrue as many points as possible across all three FC Pro Open Cups. Once the final one has taken place in January, the competitors with the most points in each region will qualify for the EA SPORTS FC Pro World Championship which will take place in Summer 2025.
