Charlton Athletic recently completed the signing of Charlie Kelman from QPR.

The Addicks are reported to have parted with £3.5 million to secure the 23-year-old’s services, which could rise to £5 million if certain clauses are triggered in the future.

Kelman netted 27 times for Leyton Orient last term and took home the League One golden boot.

Luton Town made a bid for the striker but were beaten out by Nathan Jones’ side, who have made somewhat of a statement signing as a result.

Football League World’s QPR fan pundit, Louis Moir, is delighted with how his club have handled the Kelman situation this summer and the money they’ve extracted from the deal.

QPR handed glowing report over Charlie Kelman sale

“I think the Charlie Kelman deal is quite tremendous business, really,” stated Louis.

“Regardless of the fact that I think Southend United get some money from when we bought him off them. But the deal was brilliant.

“Yet again, Christian Nourry has shown why having him in charge of all these decisions is brilliant for us as a club, not just for now, but the future as well.

‘£3.5 million that could potentially hit £5 million if add-ons are met. That sort of money for a player, I personally did not think was possible.

“He played over 20 times for us and didn't score or create a goal. I still have doubts over whether he'll score a lot in this league, but time will tell.

“I'm not gutted that he's gone because at the end of the day, he was clearly not wanting to be at the club, and didn't want to extend his time at the club. Even our CEO came out and said that he just wanted to leave.

“So, you can't risk keeping someone around the club who doesn’t want to be there and then just hope that they do well, because this is the time to sell when they've got a year left on their deal.

“I don't get people from the outside looking and thinking, what are QPR doing? But what we've done with Kelman is the most perfect decision you could make.

“He clearly didn't want to be here, so you don't want players around the club like that. I’ve got my fingers crossed he doesn't score against us this season. But apart from that, I don't really care how he does, because hopefully the strikers we have between them can do a job for us.

“Most importantly, hopefully the money from his sale can be reinvested in at least two players. So, cracking business once more.”

QPR will hope Charlie Kelman sale doesn’t come back to bite them

QPR will be delighted to have sold Kelman for so much money, with the striker unproven at Championship level.

Such a large transfer fee will allow the Hoops to invest in their current squad and boost their chances of finishing higher up the table next term.

That said, if the 23-year-old continues his flying form into the 2025/26 campaign with Charlton, it could haunt QPR.

Although they have sold the striker for a good price, having a deadly Championship frontman at such a young age may have proven to be more valuable.

Furthermore, some more standout performances may also see Kelman sold on for a much larger fee in the future, which Charlton now enjoy the luxury of.

Time will tell how the Addicks’ new signing gets on at the Valley, but Rangers’ faithful will hope the club don’t come to regret his sale.
