Chelsea make the long trip to Kazakhstan to face FC Astana in the Europa Conference League this afternoon.
The trip to take on Astana is the furthest-ever European journey the Blues have made and freezing conditions await Enzo Maresca’s side. Temperatures are expected to be as low as -15 at the Kazakhstan National Stadium.
Chelsea are aiming to continue their perfect record in this season’s competition. Despite heavy rotation in Europe, the West Londoners have maximum points from four games, scoring 18 times and conceding just three.
Chelsea have also hit fine form in the Premier League and recovered from two goals down to win at Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.
Once again Enzo Maresca has left several big names at home for a European away day with his sqyuad featuring several academy products. The Italian has confirmed that Josh Acheampong, who is on the verge of signing a new deal, will start.
There could also be minutes for Ato Ampo, Kiarno Dyer, Tyrique George, Max Merrick, Harrison Murray-Campbell, Harvey Vale, Samuel Rak-Sakyi, Kaiden Wilson and Richard Olise. The latter is the younger brother of Bayern Munich winger Michael.
Cesare Casadei is suspended after his red card against FC Heidenheim last time out. Among the senior group, only Axel Disasi, Tosin Adarabioyo, Renato Veiga, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Pedro Neto have travelled.
Goalkeepers: Filip Jorgensen, Lucas Bergstrom, Max Merrick.
Defenders: Axel Disasi, Tosin Adarabioyo, Renato Veiga, Josh Acheampong, Harrison Murray-Campbell, Richard Olise, Kaiden Wilson.
Midfielders: Carney Chukwuemeka, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Kiano Dyer, Sam Rak-Sakyi, Harvey Vale.
Forwards: Pedro Neto, Ato Ampah, Tyrique George, Marc Guiu, Shumaira Mheuka.
Chelsea: Jorgensen; Acheampong, Disasi, Adarabioyo, Veiga; Rak-Sakyi, Dewsbury-Hall, Neto, Chukwuemeka, George; Guiu.
Astana host Chelsea in the Europa Conference League on Thursday 12th December 2024. Kick-off is 15:30 GMT.
Chelsea’s trip to Kazakhstan will be shown on TNT Sports 2 and Discovery+.
