It’s advantage Chelsea heading into the second leg as they hold a 3-0 lead over Legia Warsaw.
A clinical second-half display from the Blues last Thursday put them in firm control of the Europa Conference League quarter-final tie.
With their chances of progression looking favourable, Enzo Maresca may choose to rotate his starting eleven.
Filip Jorgensen is expected to displace Robert Sanchez in goal, with the Dane playing almost every minute of the competition so far.
💬🧤–
After netting the opener in the first leg, young starlet Tyrique George will likely continue on the left flank.
Romeo Lavia has returned to training, although his chances of featuring tonight are low as he is eased back to full fitness.
January signing Mathis Amougou has had to wait patiently for his opportunity and could be handed his first start for his new employers.
A gargantuan effort is required from Legia Warszawa if they are to complete a miraculous comeback at Stamford Bridge this evening.
Top scorer Bartosz Kapustka missed the first leg and reportedly hasn’t recovered in time for the reverse fixture. Kapustka, who had a brief spell in England with Leicester, has recorded 12 goals in all competitions and his absence is a heavy blow for manager Goncalo Feio.
Marc Gual is Legia’s second biggest goal threat, but a muscular injury is also set to rule him out of the trip to London.
The Blues have faltered recently in the Premier League and drew 2-2 with relegation-threatened Ipswich Town at the weekend.
Kieran McKenna’s side raced into a comfortable two-goal lead through Brighton loanee Julio Enciso and Ben Johnson. Axel Tuanzebe’s own goal immediately after the break preceded Jadon Sancho’s equaliser with 10 minutes remaining.
However, goalkeeper Alex Palmer heroically protected his goal in the closing stages and produced several impressive stops to frustrate the hosts.
That result left Chelsea with only one win in four league games, form that has seen them drop out of the Premier League’s top five.
The prospect of Champions League football next season is now in danger of slipping away from Enzo Maresca and his players. Despite their inconsistent domestic performances, the Blues remain flawless in Europe and are firm favourites to win the Europa Conference League.
Legia: DWWLL
Legia’s hopes of winning the Polish top flight are virtually over after losing to title contenders Jagiellonia Bialystok.
Darko Churlinov’s first-half goal was the difference as Goncalo Feio’s team fell short at the weekend.
Legia are now 15 points adrift of Ekstraklasa leaders Rakow Czestochowa with six games to go. Jagiellonia are also in the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League and lost 2-0 away to Real Betis on Thursday.
Legia Warsaw have never triumphed on English soil and have been defeated in their two visits.
Chelsea take a commanding advantage into the second leg following their 3-0 dismantling of Legia Warsaw in the Polish capital.
After an uneventful first period, academy graduate Tyrique George broke the deadlock four minutes into the second half.
Chelsea skipper Reece James took aim from distance and forced a diving intervention from goalkeeper Kacper Tobiasz. However, the 22-year-old could only push the effort out to George, who coolly dispatched the rebound. It was a proud moment for the teenager as it was his first senior goal for his boyhood club.
The visitors were in full flow and doubled the advantage through Noni Madueke shortly after the opener.
Jadon Sancho picked out his fellow winger inside the area and the Englishman’s disguised finish fooled Tobiasz. The Legia stopper could only watch on helplessly as the ball rolled into the opposite corner.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall came close to volleying in a third, with his powerful strike rising just over the crossbar.
Desperate defending from the hosts in the 70th minute resulted in referee Serdar Gozubuyuk awarding a penalty. Patryk Kun robustly dealt with Dewsbury-Hall and caught the midfielder with his studs.
Unfortunately for the Blues, Christopher Nkunku wasn’t able to convert the spot kick as Tobiasz guessed the right way.
However, the Frenchman had little time to rue his mistake as Chelsea grabbed their third in the same passage of play.
A patient spell of possession following the missed penalty resulted in Sancho assisting Madueke for the second time.
The former PSV Eindhoven forward couldn’t miss from a couple of yards out to ensure his team had breathing space in the tie.
