Excluding shootout wins, Everton are winless in 35 visits to Stamford Bridge, dating back to 1994, smashed 6-0 there almost exactly 12 months ago.
Can Chelsea keep themselves in the Champions League chase? Last Sunday, the Blues appeared set to slump to another defeat, 1-0 down at Craven Cottage against West London rivals Fulham. However, youngster Tyrique George equalised with seven minutes remaining before, right at the end, Pedro Neto snatched a, potentially, priceless victory. This was the Blues' first away league win since 8 December, and ended a sequence of successive draws.
Their recent downturn in form has seen Enzo Maresca's team slip down to sixth, below Newcastle and Man City, thereby outside the Champions League places. After this, Chelsea's remaining league fixtures are against Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, which certainly won't be easy, making it of paramount importance that they collect all three points here.
Everton though will not be easy opponents, considering they've lost just twice in 13 matches since mid-January. One of these defeats did come last weekend, beaten 2-0 by Manchester City at Goodison, both goals coming in the final eight minutes.
Nevertheless, the Toffees remain 13th and, considering their final two home games are against Ipswich and Southampton, Evertonians will be hopeful about their chances of waving goodbye to Goodison with back-to-back wins. Before then, can the Blues win at Stamford Bridge for the first time in 31 years? Paul Rideout, who was born the same month that Match of the Day was first broadcast, the only scorer when they last managed it.
After a rare mid-week without a game, Enzo Maresca can deploy his strongest available XI. This could see him name an unchanged line, with Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah chosen over Tosin Adarabioyo and Benoît Badiashile at centre-back. In a timely boost, Roméo Lavia was an unused substitute at Craven Cottage, hoping to feature for the first time since 16 March due to a thigh injury.
Chelsea predicted lineup vs Everton: (4-2-3-1): Sánchez; James, Chalobah, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernández, Caicedo, Madueke, Palmer, Neto; Jackson.
Cole Palmer is currently without a goal in 16 appearances across all competitions but, having bagged a hat-trick when Everton visited Stamford Bridge a year ago, can he end this barren run?
James Tarkowski suffered a hamstring injury against Manchester City, a key turning point in that game, meaning he will be sidelined, with Michael Keane expected to deputise. After starting the last two matches, Armando Broja is ineligible to face his partner club, so Beto will return in attack.
Orel Mangala, Jesper Lindstrøm and Dominic Calvert-Lewin remain sidelined long-term but, having come off the bench during the last three matches, Dwight McNeil could start for the first time since 4 December following a knee injury.
Everton predicted lineup vs Chelsea: (4-3-3): Pickford; O'Brien, Keane, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Gana Gueye, Garner, Doucouré, McNeil, Ndiaye; Beto.
Iliman Ndiaye is Everton's top-scorer with nine goals this season so, if anyone is going to end their miserable record at Stamford Bridge, it's most-likely to be him.
We are backing Chelsea to collect three precious points at Stamford Bridge and, given this is the early kick off, the win would move them up to third, even if only for a few hours: Chelsea 2-0 Everton.
Chelsea vs Everton takes place on Saturday 26 April 2025, with kick off at 12:30 (BST), 7:30 (EDT) & 4:30 (PDT).
