Chelsea are “extremely keen” on Ipswich striker Liam Delap with the 21-year-old open to a move to Stamford Bridge according to Ben Jacobs.

The Blues have made a good start to the season and sit fourth in the league, although a run of two points from their last four games has seen the gap to fifth placed Newcastle drop to just one point.

It’s not just a lack of points that’s a concern and Enzo Maresca’s men who were free scoring earlier in the season only have two goals in their last four games, having scored 16 in the four before that.

Delap open to Stamford Bridge move

Chelsea were expected to be quiet in the window this month but with defensive injuries to Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana, their plans have seemingly changed and it looks like a new centre back could arrive, with the club exploring a move for Marc Guehi.

Fabrizio Romano has reported the Blues could still move for an attacking player, and with Nicolas Jackson on a run of one goal in his last six games, a lack of an alternative for the 23-year-old is hurting Maresca.

Jackson is Chelsea’s first choice striker and he’s made a good start to the campaign with nine goals, but with Christopher Nkunku not delivering and Marc Guiu still very raw, the decision to not sign a striker in the summer isn’t looking great.

The Blues have been linked with a move for Delap, who Maresca has praised publicly and Jacobs has provided an update on the situation.

“Chelsea remain extremely keen on Liam Delap,” he wrote in his GIVEMESPORT column.

“The Ipswich Town striker has eight Premier League goals this season and is expected to be the subject of bids this summer.

“Ipswich are reluctant to sanction a sale in January, but Chelsea are serious contenders for Delap, who is open to a move to Stamford Bridge.”

Delap ran Chelsea ragged when Ipswich beat the Blues 2-0 in December and if there was any way the club could sign him in January it would be a huge plus.
