Fulham and Chelsea may be local rivals, but that hasn’t stopped them doing business very regularly after the years.
That trend could be about to continue, with the Whites linked to two different Blues players by a report from the BBC today. Nizaar Kinsella writes that both Raheem Sterling and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are of interest to Marco Silva’s side.
Raheem Sterling arrives for Man City game
Sterling’s huge wages and lack of utility for Enzo Maresca have made him a priority sale for the last two years – unfortunately without much success. A last minute loan to Arsenal bought us another year, but now he’s back with the squad and nowhere to go.
According to Kinsella, Chelsea want £20m for their winger, with his £300,000 a week salary the obvious obstacle. The Blues would likely have to pay a huge chunk of that whether they sell him or loan him. The £150,000 that Arsenal paid towards it would be too much for Fulham.
Teams like Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus have also been linked, but none of it is very convincing so far.
Dewsbury-Hall is a different case entirely – Chelsea are happy to sell him for the right money, but are not actively looking to sell him.
At the moment Kinsella says “there is no sense he is pushing for a move.” But knowing he’s likely to be a squad player (at best) for Chelsea going forward, the chance to be a starter for Fulham could be tempting.
He got plenty of minutes at the Club World Cup, and continues to have Maresca’s implicit trust. This one feels 50/50 at this stage, waiting on a significant offer from one of the interested clubs as the window wears on.
