Chelsea climbed back into the Premier League's top four with a 1-0 victory over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge. The win marked their fifth consecutive home victory. Enzo Fernández scored the game's only goal with a well-placed header from a Cole Palmer cross.
Wednesday's wins for Manchester City and Newcastle had temporarily dropped Chelsea to sixth, but their victory restored their position in the top four.
Chelsea started on the front foot, nearly taking the lead within minutes. A well-placed over-the-top ball from Trevoh Chalobah put Nicolas Jackson through, but he struggled to control it. A chaotic exchange between Jackson, Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, and Micky van de Ven resulted in the ball hitting the post.
The Blues kept up the pressure, consistently delivering crosses into the box, but without success. Tottenham eventually grew into the game, seeing more possession. However, apart from a low-driven cross from Son Heung-min, they failed to create any significant danger.
Chelsea ended the half stronger, with Jadon Sancho forcing Vicario into a fine save.
Chelsea began the second half aggressively and were rewarded within five minutes. A superb cross from Cole Palmer found Enzo Fernández, who expertly directed his header into the net.
Moments later, Moisés Caicedo thought he had doubled the lead, but his goal was ruled out for offside.
Tottenham believed they had equalized through Pape Sarr, but instead, he was booked for a foul on Caicedo in the build-up. Robert Sánchez made a few solid saves late in the match to preserve Chelsea’s lead. Despite 12 minutes of added time, the Blues held firm, completing yet another league double over their London rivals.
Showed quality with his long passes and made crucial saves when needed. However, he was fortunate that Tottenham’s goal was disallowed, as his attempt to stop it was poor. Aside from that moment, he was solid.
Had an early shot into the side netting. Provided good support to Neto and adjusted well when moved to left wing late in the game. Worked tirelessly and kept Son relatively quiet.
Created early problems for Spurs with his long passes. Defended well and fully justified his selection.
Had a quieter game compared to the rest of the defense but remained composed. His only blemish was being offside in the build-up to Caicedo’s disallowed goal.
Provided strong support in attack and didn’t give Odobert any space. Another solid performance from the Spaniard.
Made intelligent forward runs in the first half and showed great movement to score the only goal with a brilliant header. A strong overall display.
Outstanding again, despite taking an early knock. Led the match in tackles and duels won.
Energetic throughout and put in dangerous crosses.
Sent in a few low crosses from the left and delivered the perfect ball for Enzo’s goal. Always looked to create, finally getting his first assist in over 10 matches.
Had some promising moments but struggled with the end product. Could have been more active defensively. Came close with a shot that forced a save from Vicario.
Had a few early chances and looked sharp despite returning from injury. His presence occupied Tottenham’s center-backs, creating space for Enzo’s run.
Worked hard and tried to stretch the Spurs’ defense whenever he got the ball.
Came on to help contain Son and support attacks from the right.
Helped Chelsea see out the match and protect the lead.
Brought on to reinforce the defense and did his job.
Not Chelsea’s best performance, but his plan worked well enough to secure the win. The substitutes were purposeful, and each played their role effectively.
