Ben Jacobs Tweeted last night that Bournemouth are asking £40+ plus for Milos Kerkez, the Bournemouth left back.
Liverpool are apparently “leading the race” for the Hungary left back, who has played a huge part in the Cherries really impressive season. Chelsea have been linked before, and we think they should be doing all they can to get involved again.
Left back is a position they lack depth in – Renato Veiga filled in for Marc Cucurella in the first half of the season, but since his departure on loan to Juventus we’ve basically been without a reserve in that position, save for Malo Gusto or Reece James playing on the wrong side.
Ben Jacobs updates his followers on the Milos Kerkez situation, with Liverpool “leading the race” for the left back.
Is “£40m+” a lot for a backup left back? Yes, absolutely. But if you think about it, it’s really not crazy money. we’ve spent more than than on backup centre backs, and have wasted vast sums of really weak players in recent years. Is £40m on a top player with Premier League experience in a position of need worse than £19m on Omari Kellyman or £39m for Axel Disasi? We don’t think so.
Plus he’d hardly be a backup. He’d be directly competing with Marc Cucurella a left back.
Cucurella has played so many minutes this season, and next season needs a genuine alternative. We won’t be able to give him 45 minute run outs in the Champions League (should we get there) as we have in the Conference League this season.
Chelsea may not be able to win this race with Liverpool for Kerkez, but they should at the very least be running in it.
