This is going to be a busy week at Chelsea. It’s only Monday, but we’re already hearing about significant movement all over. There’s plenty of talk about players coming in, as always, but we also need to sell, and we’re hoping this could be a big week for that.

Renato Veiga’s potential departure was mentioned more and more as the week wore on last week, and we expect it make serious advances in the next few days.

Over the weekend it became clear that Atletico Madrid had joined Bayern Munich and Juventus, along with several Premier League teams, on the list of interested parties. Top insider Fabrizio Romano claimed that the Blues were looking for €40m for the former Sporting defender – and they may well get it. Romano said there had already been direct contact, and that the player was keen – and so things are moving quickly.

Report makes it likely that Chelsea deal will come together fast

According to L’Equipe’s report from this afternoon, the Spanish club have already made two offers, with the latest coming to €35m including bonuses.

Given that, this can be wrapped up really quickly. Chelsea simply nudge things a little higher, asking for €40m with bonuses, and maybe split the difference on how much of the fee is paid up front. Atletico pay a little more, Chelsea get the €40m they want and the deal can quickly move on to personal terms.

Veiga will want his future sorted as speedily as possible, and Diego Simeone will want his new defender in preseason right away. Fortunately for everyone, this looks like it could be sorted pretty quickly.

It will sharpen the Blues’ need for a backup left back, and that could be the next piece of the puzzle.
