Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah had a notable stat emerge from the team’s Club World Cup semi final win over Fluminense.
The centre back completed 57 of 57 passes against the Brazilians. After a performance like that it was only fair that Chalobah was the lucky player to end up with former teammate Thiago Silva’s shirt after the game.
Any doubts about his quality have surely vanished now. The club have tried to sell him year after year, but it now seems they realise what a mistake that would have been. Two years in a row he’s returned in the winter to show how important he can be to the team. Things could have been very different had he been trusted more.

Overall, the defender was delighted with his team and what they had done to get to the final on Sunday:
“We’re over the moon. It’s been one of our goals since the first game of the tournament and it’s nice to get into the final,” Chalobah said of his team’s achievements.
“All we can manage is what happens on the pitch and the boys have done that well throughout this tournament. Now we have one more step.”
It won’t be an easy step, against a menacing PSG team.
The centre backs have been rotated pretty consistently through this tournament, with Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo all getting starting reps. With all of them available on Sunday, seeing who starts will be very instructive about Enzo Maresca’s plans for this season to come, as well as our potential transfer strategy for the summer.
