Chelsea are weighing up a move for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez, according to The Athletic.
The Blues have been linked with RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, but they could switch their attention to Lopez.
No direct contact has taken place between Chelsea and Barcelona.
However, Chelsea opened talks with the player’s representatives to explore the possibility of a transfer.
Barcelona’s current depth in attacking roles could make a deal possible, although it depends on their willingness to negotiate.
The Spaniard signed a new contract in October 2024, extending his stay at the Camp Nou until 2029.
The fresh deal added two more years to his previous terms, underlining the club’s long-term plans for the midfielder.
The 22-year-old missed the early part of the 2024-25 season after suffering a thigh injury that sidelined him for over a month.
Despite that setback, he played 46 matches across all competitions, bagging eight goals and ten assists.
Most of his appearances came from the bench as he competed for opportunities in a packed squad.
Lopez joined Barcelona’s academy from Real Betis when he was 12 years old.
He gained senior experience during a loan spell with Linares in the 2022-23 season before returning to break into Barcelona’s first team under Xavi.
During that breakthrough year, he scored 11 goals in 43 appearances, earning recognition as one of the club’s emerging talents.
He would be a stellar signing for Chelsea, but prising him away from Barcelona will not be easy.
