Chelsea back out of Kieran McKenna pursuit amid Manchester United links

Chelsea are searching for a new manager and it was believed that Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna was among their top candidates to succeed Mauricio Pochettino.

It sounds like Chelsea are getting closer to concluding their search for a new manager, with the club no longer considering the Ipswich Town manager for the role, as per The Athletic.

That leaves Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca and Brentford’s Thomas Frank in the running to take over at Stamford Bridge.

McKenna, who previously worked under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United, is highly thought of after leading Ipswich back to the Premier League following back-to-back promotions.

Stretty News understands that McKenna would be a serious candidate for the United job if Ineos decide to part ways with Erik ten Hag this summer.

Some members of United’s hierarchy share fears over the job coming too soon for the 38-year-old coach, while others believe McKenna already has a good understanding of the club.

United will consider other candidates too, no doubt, if they decide to call it a day with Ten Hag.

A decision has yet to be made on the manager’s future at Old Trafford but with that to come following a season review led by club officials, Brighton are making progress on their McKenna pursuit.

McKenna looks likely to succeed Roberto de Zerbi at Brighton and I think Chelsea are simply trying to save face after being snubbed.
