In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Chelsea are eager to land Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo this summer. It has been revealed that the Blues are showing interest in acquiring the services of the Uruguayan centre-back following Levi Colwill’s serious injury recently.
Araujo was sidelined for a lot of games for the Catalan club last season but managed to put in a string of solid displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The Uruguay international participated in 25 matches for Barca in the previous campaign, scoring two times and picking up two assists on all fronts.
The 26-year-old has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and could be a key asset for a club like Chelsea if he can steer clear of injuries over the next few years.
Araujo is under contract at the Nou Camp until the summer of 2031. Hence, it won’t be easy for Chelsea to get a deal done for him on the cheap this off-season.

Araujo is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and is an accurate passer of the ball.
The Uruguay international is primarily a central defender but can also fill in as a right-back if asked to do so. However, it remains to be seen whether he would be able to cope with the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League if the Blues manage to snap him up this summer.
We can expect Araujo to bring more bite and steel to Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca’s defence. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team spot at the West London club next season. The Uruguayan talent would even serve as a decent replacement for Levi Colwill, who suffered a serious injury recently.
At 26, Araujo has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a good choice for the Blues to consider in this transfer window. Thus, Maresca would be wise to go all out to bring him on board soon.
