According to Football Insider, the left-sided player has two suitors from the Championship as he approaches the end of his current deal.

Small has been a key figure for the Addicks this season, with the team chasing promotion back to the second division.

The left-back has contributed two goals and two assists from 36 appearances in League One, with the team sitting in a play-off position going into the final fixtures of the term.

Small’s time at Charlton could come to an end this season with the impending expiration of his current contract.

It’s believed that the London outfit have offered a new two-year deal to the 20-year-old, who has been with the club since February 2024.

However, Championship sides Preston and Millwall have both registered their interest in a deal to sign Small this summer.

It remains to be seen what decision Small will make over his future after a strong campaign in Nathan Jones’ side, where he has enjoyed success playing further forward as a right-winger.

Small has made a total of 50 league appearances for Charlton since joining from Southampton after loan spells at Port Vale and St. Mirren.

The youngster’s deal expires in June, and could wait until the Addicks’ promotion battle is concluded before choosing the next step in his career.

Charlton’s promotion push

Charlton are currently fifth in the League One table with just five games remaining, with eight points separating them from Wrexham in second.

Bolton Wanderers in seventh are seven points adrift, giving Jones’ side a chance at the play-offs.

The club have lost just one of their last 10 league games, winning seven, to move into a top six position.

Next up for Charlton is a trip to face Cambridge United on 12 April in 3pm kick-off.

Promotion will be needed to keep Small

Charlton will know that promotion to the Championship will be the best way to convince Small to stay at the club.

The 20-year-old has his future in his own hands, and it’s no surprise that he’s attracting this kind of interest.

He’s performed well in a promotion-chasing side in League One and is out of contract in the summer, making him a no-brainer option for teams like Preston and Millwall.

If Charlton don’t go up, then a move to either of these teams would be a great chance for Small to make the step up a division.
