Carlton Palmer gave his exclusive take on Sheffield Wednesday's transfer window.
Sheffield Wednesday closed their quiet transfer window with no final additions on deadline day as they secured all their business by Saturday afternoon.
Much of the window became a lull with head coach Danny Röhl and owner Dejphon Chansiri being at odds, clashing over the club's transfer policy and the release clause in the German's contract.
Eventually, the issue was resolved, and the Owls secured two new signings: Ibrahim Cissoko, who joined on loan from Toulouse after his spell at Plymouth Argyle was cut short, and Stuart Armstrong, who arrived on a permanent deal from Vancouver Whitecaps.
While Wednesdayites would have fancied an extra addition up front and in defence, these new faces do represent quality, and they should both be useful in the push for a top-six position come May.
Currently, Röhl's side sit 10th in the table, just two points off the play-offs, with plenty of teams in the mix as the fight for league positioning heats up for the final third of the season.
With the transfer window all wrapped up, Football League World exclusively spoke to Carlton Palmer to get his take on how he thinks the window went for the blue and white side of Sheffield.
The ex-Wednesday midfielder said: "Dejphon Chansiri has backed his manager in the transfer window by landing Ibrahim Cissoko and Stuart Armstrong.
"He has got a wide player and a midfield player, and I know Danny Röhl was looking to do a bit more business in the transfer window, but they have at least brought in two players that will give them some strength in depth and help them perhaps kick on and achieve a play-off place.
"If they had stayed up this season and finished mid-table, it would have been a fantastic season for Röhl, but now opportunities knock. They have been very consistent in the way they're playing, and who knows? There are a host of clubs, from Blackburn in fifth place down to 13th, with only five points separating the teams. Anybody who can put a consistent run together could end up in a play-off position.
"Dejphon Chansiri has backed Danny Rohl. I'm sure every manager gets a bit greedy and wants more players in, but at the start of the window, it was unlikely with the situation between Chansiri and Röhl. There was a stand-off, and it seemed unlikely that any player was going to be brought into the football club. So, at least he has managed to get a couple through the door, and let's see how they go in the final 16 games of the season."
Both players may need time to regain match fitness, with Cissoko recovering from injury and Armstrong having not played competitively since the MLS season ended in November.
However, once available, both players should make their own impact on Röhl's side.
Cissoko was a bright spark for Plymouth in the early weeks of the season, scoring three goals in 13 games while also ranking highly in key metrics such as successful dribbles, touches in the opposition box, and shots per 90 minutes.
Meanwhile, Armstrong brings valuable experience, having achieved promotion with Southampton in 2023-24, contributing 12 goals and assists along the way.
