CHAN 2024: Kenyan president promises jackpot to Harambee Stars

Before the official kick-off of CHAN 2024, Kenya's president, William Ruto, fired up the Harambee Stars by announcing a massive bonus in case of victory. And it all begins with their opening match against DR Congo.

According to reports from the local press, the Kenyan head of state hinted that each player will receive 1 million Kenyan shillings (around €7,800) for every win during the tournament. This announcement was made during his visit to the national team's camp, just one day before they take on DR Congo. Even in the event of a draw, players will be rewarded with 500,000 KES (about €3,900) each.

The president also pledged €460,000 for reaching the quarterfinals, €535,000 for making it to the semifinals, and an incredible €4.6 million jackpot for winning the trophy on home soil. Kenya is set to kick off their campaign this Sunday, August 3, at Kasarani Stadium against the Leopards of DR Congo.
