Ben Brereton Diaz is undoubtedly enjoying his Sheffield United return. Being the Blades' difference-maker again, Diaz has apparently hinted Southampton to reveal their asking price for a permanent move.
Premier League fans are generally known for forming a quick judgement based on any new player. Whether they are proven right or too quick to downplay, these aspects exponentially boost the hype surrounding every Premier League game.
Thus, it must be the same for Southampton fans, right? Well, one can argue in that favour but there's one player who constantly forms a different expectation from the Saints.
Surprisingly, he has been a Saint for just over six months. This should be an easy guess but for those who are still brainstorming, it's Ben Brereton Diaz.
The Chilean attacker arrived at St. Mary's in fine form and was widely considered as the rightful holder of the centre forward role. Plus, the kind of prestige he had earned among Championship fans led him to receive a grand welcome at the club.
Honestly, let's admit that some of us were even imagining him enacting Matt Le Tissier's brilliance or even half of his genius on the pitch. Well, those dreams and beliefs got a reality check within the first three months itself.
So much so that, his Sheffield United homecoming felt inevitable from the beginning of the transfer window. Still, the situation has taken a dramatic turn again with Diaz effortlessly scoring crucial goals upon his return.
Watching him rediscover his prime form, some fans may still be hoping for him to succeed at Southampton in the future. As unlucky as this situation feels, the club and the board must factor in the sporting aspects for the long run.
One, which points towards moving on from Diaz. Fortunately, Diaz also feels this way about his Southampton future.
Quizzed about his career plans, Diaz was quoted by the Sheffield Star: "I love it here, I love working with the lads and the gaffer and all the staff. It's a great atmosphere around the place so game by game, I'll keep pushing and working hard. And we'll see what happens."
Finally, let's stay optimistic that Diaz concludes a good season at Sheffield United. To the extent that Southampton doesn't have to stress about finding an interested buyer for the striker.
