Celtic January transfer target Danny Ings is set to be available as a free agent after West Ham United confirmed his release. The 32-year-old striker previously worked with Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool and was lined up on deadline day by the Scottish Champions.

West Ham manager Graham Potter will look to get his own players in and he’s decided to move on a number of David Moyes’ favourites from his time in charge.

Celtic looked to sign Ings on a loan deal back in January after Kyogo Furuhashi left for Rennes. West Ham blocked this move as they wanted more offensive options; however, Ings has made just 17 appearances, scoring 1 goals and assisting twice.

Celtic have been heavily linked with Mathias Kvistgaarden but will have to pay £11m for the highly rated Danish attacker. The difficulty in such a deal will be the price tag as well as the increased interest in the player from Bundesliga sides. Brendan Rodgers will be keen on his side strengthening in the summer but it requires to be shrewd investment that will continue in the club’s trading model.

Ings has likely been on a decent wage at West Ham and will have aspirations for one big last contract before hanging up his boots. The lower end of the Premier League will see Ings as an option but upper Championship clubs will also be eager to sign him. Celtic would benefit from a player of his experience but there is no resale value in signing a player like Ings.
