Interim Ibrox boss Barry Ferguson alongside his newly appointed first team coaches and former BBC Sportsound pundits Neil McCann and Billy Dodds will take their side to Celtic Park on Sunday 16 March for the penultimate Glasgow Derby of the season.
Celtic currently lead the way by a significant 13-point margin at the top of the Scottish Premiership league table. With theRangers suffering an early exit in the Scottish Cup last 16 against Scottish Championship minnows Queens Park at Ibrox earlier this month, only two Glasgow Derby games remain for the rest of the campaign.
According to a report in The Sun, both clubs are close to striking an agreement that will see 2,500 visiting fans sell-out the away section in Glasgow’s east end next month.
The move will be reciprocated for when the expected four-in-a-row Scottish champions travel to Ibrox for the final Glasgow Derby encounter of the season in April or May. Both clubs are now content with the safety procedures in place and supporters groups on both sides have been briefed on the updated situation.
No visiting supporters have attended a Glasgow Derby affair since the two sides played out a 2-2 draw at Ibrox in January 2023. Since then, eight fixtures have taken place at both stadiums, exclusively attended by home supporters only.
Earlier this season, Celtic were not convinced whether Ibrox would be able to host Hoops fans on 2nd January following major repairs to the Copland Road stand in the summer which saw the Gers play a handful of games at Hampden Park during the first two months of the campaign.
The agreed work at the away section entrance had at that time not been done at Ibrox as agreed. In contrast Celtic carried out all the necessary alterations outside the away area at Celtic Park last summer and this was completed ahead of the season beginning.
Celtic must be satisfied that similar work has now been done at Ibrox and this will include nets being in place so that their bottles can no longer injury Celtic supporters attending a game.
