Following the announcement of SWPL fixtures, theRangers announced that they would be moving all home SWPL games to Ibrox, subject to scheduling clashes.

The waters were tested last campaign, with four matches hosted at the ground, but the club hopes that a move to Ibrox will encourage more supporters of the men’s team to come out and support the women.

One of the main reasons why they decided to do this was because of the troubles of their usual stadium, Broadwood over that Cumbernauld, being outside of Glasgow. This made it very difficult for some supporters to travel to games, and of course, that’s always going to be an issue.

And as Celtic fans, I’m sure this will ring true for us as well.

For the longest time, supporters have been urging the club to relocate the women’s team to Glasgow. Sadly, it doesn’t seem as though that will happen anytime soon, considering the move to New Douglas Park in Hamilton was just last season.

There has been a lot of discussion over if the move from Airdrie was the correct decision, and whether you agree or not, I think it’s time to say in collective agreement that if Celtic want to take the next step up, a move to Glasgow must be on the cards.

For all we know, this could be happening behind the scenes, as the club has not provided any information on season tickets, confirmed home stadium, among other things. A lot of fans are becoming increasingly concerned with the lack of communication, and I don’t blame them one bit.

Following the conclusion of last season, there has been plenty of discussion amongst the supporters on whether New Douglas Park was the correct choice for the Ghirls or not. Some people have expressed concerns about the atmosphere, while others have noted that the facilities in Airdrie were much better than the ones in Hamilton.

I reckon it’s very safe to say that the overall thinking is that the matchday experience for the average supporter has decreased significantly, and coming off the back of a difficult season, I fear that could cause some people to put their support elsewhere.

As mentioned, it also doesn’t help that we are currently miles behind every SWPL club in terms of getting our season started. We have still failed to make a single signing, and took our time announcing departures, with Mathilde Carstens announcing that she was leaving before the club even acknowledged it.

Celtic have had ten first teamers leave with not a single signing from a manager who is absent with leave, working at the Women’s Euros for Swedish television. Some of the exiting Ghirls made their feeling clear towards Elena Sadiku as they headed to the exit door.

So will Celtic FC Women end up staying put in Hamilton for the upcoming campaign, or is a move back to Airdrie more likely? Surely there should be some consideration given to playing the games at Queen’s Park little ground next to Hampden and within sight of Celtic Park?

Hopefully, we will find out sooner rather than later where Celtic FC Women will playing next season with plenty of supporters noting that given the high decrease in the first team squad size the pits 5-a-side courts would probably suffice.
