Daniel Cummings has not yet been offered a new deal by the Scottish giants
Celtic are yet to offer their star youth striker Daniel Cummings a new contract amid interest in his services from Championship sides Sunderland and Burnley, as well as a host of Premier League teams.
The 18-year-old has been prolific in the Bhoys' age-group teams in years gone by but is out of contract next summer at Parkhead and could be free to discuss terms with other interested teams in January if he does not receive an offer from Celtic beforehand.
Cummings has bagged 22 goals in 20 youth games this season, including five strikes in as many UEFA Youth League games after a winner against Club Brugge last week, and his exceptional showings have alerted numerous English clubs to his potential availability in the new year, with a potential transfer tug-of-war set to unfold if he does wish to leave Scotland.
Glasgow-born Cummings has been in Celtic's youth ranks since a young age, and while he is yet to make his professional debut for his boyhood club, his impressive progression through the youth ranks has made him one of Scotland's most highly-rated young players right now.
Reports from Football Insider last week revealed that Sunderland, along with fellow Championship high-flyers Burnley, as well as Wolves, Fulham, and Ipswich Town, had all watched the in-form youngster in recent weeks ahead of a potential approach.
The Mail Online's latest update claims that Celtic are still yet to offer a contract extension to their coveted teenage striker Cummings, with Brentford also interested in his services, alongside all of the aforementioned clubs.
The 18-year-old is out of contract next summer, after he signed his first professional deal in July 2022, and the Mail report that Celtic could expect to earn a figure between £230,000 and £330,000 in training compensation, if he does join an English side soon.
It would be a surprise to see Cummings depart the Glasgow giants, simply due to his impressive scoring exploits at youth level, and first-team boss Brendan Rodgers' apparent desire to find a younger third striker to provide back-up for Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah.
Despite that, his latest quotes on Cummings point to him not being ready to take on the Scottish Premiership just yet, which opens him up to a potential move away in the coming months, with a possible chance in a senior Championship side on the horizon.
"It’s your mentality. It’s your professionalism. All these things, alongside ability, are what get you the opportunity,' said Rodgers last month, via MailOnline.
"In terms of Daniel’s output, his goals in his games, he’s done very well. But, like I say, there’s a lot of factors I consider when bringing in a young player.
"Ability is the first thing I look at, but your attitude and application are just as important."
Whether Cummings is ready to wait it out until Rodgers believes his mental attributes are as developed as his physical attributes remains to be seen, but right now, it certainly looks as if Celtic are happy to let him find a new club in January ahead of a move at the end of the season.
The trust and development given to young players at the Stadium of Light may make the Black Cats favourites for his signature if the opportunity arises to sign him soon, while Scott Parker's Burnley look to be on the right track for promotion this season, which could open up the opportunity to play Premier League football at some point in the near future for Cummings.
