The £11m man has well and truly re-established his form producing eye-catching moments in recent games including his expert set-piece deliveries.

Celtic’s most consistent player in recent games

Racking up the minutes, Engels has been Celtic’s most consistent player over the festive and New Year period, and his engine will be important as the Hoops prepare for a congested period of fixtures across three different competitions over the next two weeks.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the game, Engels said, “I’m trying my best. The most important thing is the three points, we are moving so quickly, and the games are coming so quickly that it is really just important to keep what you need to do. I am happy to help the team with that.”

Callum McGregor praises Belgian teammate

Engels midfielder partner and skipper Callum McGregor waxed lyrical of the Belgian since his arrival from Bundesliga outfit FC Augsburg in the summer for a club record fee, “this guy has been fantastic since he walked through the door,” McGregor outlined. “A big price tag and a big expectation – but he has handled it so well.”

“He is a down to earth kid as well. He just keeps getting stronger and stronger. He is a team player, and you need that to be a Celtic player. I am really happy for him. He is making great strides and a top player.”

Engels needing a wine cellar

Whilst handing over the champagne for Engels after an accomplished display against Dundee United, McGregor quipped, “I think it’s his dad that is picking him,” in reference to the 21 year-old winning the past four Man of the Match awards at Celtic Park.
