AC Milan are plotting an attempt to bring Sandro Tonali back to the club but they are likely to be met by resistance from Newcastle United, a report claims.
The exit of Tonali is still something that represents pain to many Milan fans. Fabrizio Romano reported at the time that he joined Newcastle for €70m including bonuses, and will get a potential €9m net per season for six years.
However, things didn’t start in the ideal way as he was suspended for being found guilty of having placed bets. That led to a long spell on the sidelines and he returned at the end of last August, becoming a gradually more important player for the Toon over time.
According to what is being reported by CaughtOffside, there are ‘three major European clubs’ that are keen on a €60m move for Tonali this summer. Milan are one of them, while Barcelona and Juventus are in the running too.
However, the report adds that ‘Newcastle’s strong intention is to block any potential deal’ because head coach Eddie Howe is ‘eager to keep hold of the 24-year-old and to continue to build around him’, especially given his impressive recent performances.

Nonetheless, with the pressures of PSR rules in the Premier League, the three mentioned clubs feel that offers in the region of €60m could ‘possibly be enough to give Newcastle something to think about’.
The Magpies ended their trophy drought by lifting the Carabao Cup recently, and they have a core of players like Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon alongside Tonali that they will surely want to protect.
CaughtOffside do add an interesting note at the end, though: “The Italy international may well be homesick for Milan after his spell there earlier in his career, while few can say no when the likes of Barcelona and Juventus come calling.”
