Carlo Ancelotti speaks out on Arda Güler’s Real Madrid role before Sociedad clash | OneFootball

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has on Friday provided an insight into the place of youngster Arda Güler in his squad at this moment in time.

This comes amid mounting calls for the Turkish sensation to be restored to starting duties this weekend.

Güler, for his part, is fresh off something of a hit-and-miss opening to the campaign in Spain’s capital.

Though his prominence has proven altogether more considerable than last season, when the 19-year-old found himself injured and then glued to the bench for months on end, he has nevertheless been afforded a starting berth in just one of Real Madrid’s five fixtures across all competitions.

Amid something of an injury crisis in midfield at the Santiago Bernabéu, and with Güler for his part fresh off a productive international break, the Blancos faithful have in turn already begun calling for their side’s gifted starlet to be reintroduced to boss Ancelotti’s XI this weekend.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s trip to San Sebastian to face Real Sociedad on Saturday, the subject of as much was therefore put to the Italian tactician himself this afternoon.

Ancelotti, however, whilst keen to praise Güler, refused to confirm his status as a starter at Aneota:

“Arda Güler can play in midfield. We need to train it because we have never tried.

“He played well versus Valladolid. He will have more protagonism, sure. Being a starter is difficult because I don’t see anyone as [an] undisputed starter.”
