MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup continues with Canada meeting Honduras in Group B on Tuesday at BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The match will mark the fifth between the countries in Gold Cup history. Honduras leads the series with two wins to one for Canada, while another encounter resulted in a draw.

Canada start quest for second title on home soil

Canada will kick off its 17th appearance in the tournament seeking to win a second trophy, and first under American manager Jesse Marsch.

The Reds latest qualification came as one of the quarterfinal winners in the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League. The series against Suriname was an eventful one for Canada, winning 4-nil on aggregate to advance to the CNL Finals and Gold Cup.

Jonathan David headlines Canada’s roster for the tournament, who will be looking to add to his six Gold Cup career goals.

Honduras seek resurgence under Rueda

Honduras is also set for a 17th participation in the tournament. Los Catrachos qualified after ousting Bermuda 7-3 on aggregate in the 2025 Gold Cup Prelims. La H had five different scorers in the series, including a goal in each leg from star player Luis Palma.

Honduras’ best finish at a Gold Cup came in the inaugural edition in 1991 when it lost the final on penalties. Its second best-finish came as semifinalist in 2005 and 2009, the latter coached by current manager Reinaldo Rueda.

All-Time series Canada v. Honduras

This will be the fifth all-time meeting between Canada and Honduras in the Concacaf Gold Cup. Honduras holds the edge with two wins, one draw, and one defeat in the tournament’s history.

The Catrachos earned their first Gold Cup win over Canada in the inaugural edition on June 28, 1991, with a thrilling 4-2 victory in Los Angeles. Eduardo Bennett made history by scoring the first-ever goal in Gold Cup history (28’), followed by goals from Juan Carlos Espinoza (35’), Luis Enrique Cálix (44’), and Eugenio Dolmo Flores (51’). Dale Mitchell scored twice (66’, 80’) for Canada.

Honduras secured their second win in the 2009 quarterfinals with a 1-0 result at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, thanks to a 35th-minute penalty from Walter “Pery” Martínez.

Canada’s lone Gold Cup win against Honduras came on January 10, 1996, in Group B action in Anaheim. Carlo Corazzin (7’) and Kevin Holness (27’, 60’) were the scorers in a 3-1 victory, with Presley Carson Wood (40’) pulling one back for Honduras.
